Insch Station Waiting Room Closure Application

First Scotrail has applied to lock up the traditional indoor waiting rooms (C listed buildiings) at the station and replace them with glass and steel shelters built on the platform. This would be seriously harmful to the character of our “picture postcard” station. First Scotrail describes the old waiting rooms as “a fire hazard”.insch_station

Apart from the effect on the appearance of the station, the new waiting rooms would be open to the elements and may encourage groups of youths to congregate in the evenings. The old waiting rooms may fall into disrepair if unused.

We were apparently notified of this in “The Herald” of 24 February 2006. The application is to be considered at the Garioch Area Committee on Tuesday next (22 August) but how local people were supposed to find this out I have no idea. I have not been able to find this application on the Council’s web site (http://www.ukplanning.com/ukp/index.htm) other than by typing in the application number. Even inserting the postcode of the station (AB52 6XP) does not bring it up.
